24 hours later I woke up realizing how awfully stupid mistake I made ignoring any due diligence and just making one of the most retarded decisions of my entire existence.
When I realized that I made a retarded decision, I sat down like a jackass and wasn’t even able to think properly. Like my memory have faded or something. I was in shock.
How could I do something like that? It is retarded!
Now before you judge me, I’d like to say it was personal, life-related decision that I don’t wanna share cause it was… well … too personal. But no I did not cheated on anyone. LOL
Anyway, I realized as the day went on that I was in tremendous amount of pressure and anxiety. I was feeling a bit down and in that moment, I saw the light, that hopefully after making that irrational decision things might get better if only temporarily.
Nothing bad happened.
But I realized the potential flaw which was clear as hell, as clear as silicon in Iggy Azaleas’s ass.
I gave it a deep thought and I realized that the state we are in right now, the mental state matters a lot when it comes to making decisions. But it’s not just that, there is a lot more to it than that.
And this includes the emotions that are flowing through you in that moment as well as your business life.
Because as much as some folks like to say that keep your work at the office and leave it there when you get home, well life is not as simple as that. Because you cannot leave something at some place that is a part of you.
And believe it or not, your work life, the level of anxiety and emotions you feel towards your work and errands that you run daily that are work related are directly related to your mental state and the decision you make in that particular state will determine the quality of that decision.
I was on the worst side of it.
And hey, I’m not perfect. Things happen to the best of us.
What differentiates us from the herd is how we deal with those things and what we learn from them.
Now you WILL make bad decisions at some point in your life, it’s inevitable that some of us make retarded decisions on a regular basis.
…and its okay, its a part of being a human.
That’s just how our brains work under certain conditions.
What I learned from all this, was that I will never make a decision that is important (not like what should I eat or buy) in a negative or a vulnerable mental state.
I also learned to analyze my emotions like we watch our weight.
I also worked on designing a thinking process to deal with decision making, which you can learn more about in this article I wrote a few months back.
So I’d like close with this message for you, that sometimes you will be in a vulnerable emotional state caused by several things happening in your life, mostly negative but sometimes even positive things can make you put your emotional guard down.
So follow this guide:
- Be rational, ask really good questions and sometimes even questions that seem so simple could shift your perspective.
- Pay attention to your emotional state in which you are thinking about that decision you are trying to make
- Create a thinking process like I talked about in this particular article
- Sleep on it
- And despite all these measures, sometimes stuff just happens so its best to analyze it and learn from it.
And sometimes you simply won’t get why things are happening to you regardless of what you’ve done and you get angry and frustrated and regardless of how serious you are you just don’t get it, and it’s okay cause that’s life, just move on. Time only moves in one direction. (see the video attached below)
Notes: cheers to those who understand the difference between bad luck and bad decision.
P.S. – I’d like to leave you with this awesome video analysis of a movie by Coen Brothers called “A Serious Man”, why bad things happens to serious men, sometimes.
