How To Design Web-Apps That Sells

Web-App UI design

So I just had this cinnamon tea and I’m pumped with energy, thought would bang out the key board and pump out a nice article for ya’all

Anyway, I wanna talk about good design and how important it is for us web-app and SaaS entrepreneurs.

Well, the process is something I’ve explained in this video:

But why is design important?

Okay before you read from here on, I want you to go and watch the video above, its good.

All righty, so now here is why good design is super important:

First and foremost, a good design is invisible. Like a simple tool, like chair.

Its invisible and you won’t look at it and appreciate how well designed it is.

Because you won’t notice it, THAT’S HOW WELL IT FITS IN YOUR LIFE that its now a part of our reality.

It simply works. Now you can’t live without one, because of how you use it and how necessary it is for you.

So the concept is simple, with web-apps, when you’re making or designing the UI and feature elements of it.

So you have to think about the design based on the formula I mentioned in the video above.

Does your web-app passes the chair test?

If it does, the following is gonna happen:

  • Your users are gonna stay much longer with you, and they will keep using your service or app sometimes even for years!
  • More adoption, people will recommend your web-app a lot because it simply works and that’s the tool they use and like to talk about it when people asks.
  • They will use your product a lot, hence more feed back if you’re clever ti use some behavior tracking tools like crazy eggs.

…and not only that, your focus will improve and you won’t focus on a gazillion different features and instead, you’ll work on the top 2 or 3 features that most people will be using and that it does the job for them.

This gives you opportunity to really work on those elements and really nail them instead of perfecting many things, you can’t and don’t wanna juggle.
Your development and designing cost will go down SEVERAL TIMES and your product will improve.

So there ya go.

The design is essentially the part of marketing with web-apps and SaaS apps.

You have to really start early before starting the designing process and way before you start the development process.

Go deep in the mind of your perceived end user and see his most primary frustration and only focus on that.

When you do this, it doesn’t matter how your web-app looks like, it doesn’t have to be eye candy, it will simply be the tool that simply gets the job done for your audience.
