[MENTAL HACK] What is a lead?

You might be wondering, well that’s a lame question!

I know what a lead is! Why are you asking me this question?

Here is why: How YOU define YOUR leads could make a HUGE difference in your business.

This is a strategy I’ve learned a long time ago and it changed the way I design my marketing campaigns and I’m sure it will change yours too…

When I run an ad, I try to lure people in by starting a conversation via my ad creative.

That conversation’s goal is to get them to buy from me and establish long term relationship with them.

Same process humans do to create a relationship and form friendships

Also here is my philosophy with leads.

A lead is someone who gave you his contact info and has a STORY behind why he gave you that info and EXPECT something from you.

Keywords here are story and expectations

If your lead doesn’t have these two properties, then it is not a lead but just a contact info.

And that’s how I define what a lead to me is and how I differentiate between a contact and a lead…

Now based on this philosophy I create these “conversation points” that pushes them forward in the relationship.

I do it via behavioral retargeting but it has to be a conversion not a generic buy now call…

This conversation that I trigger via my ad creative attract people that relate to it

And they all have a story on why they relate to it

BINGO.

That to me, is a lead.

Now they have a story, I’ve figured it out by attracting them via a conversation ad creative specifically designed to attract them.

Now it’s time to introduce them to further conversational points to strengthen that relationship.

Now I pitch them a relevant product.

Okay here is the thing at this stage, most people will say – OVER-DELIVERY IS THE WAY TO GO!!!

Now I get it, you wanna go an extra mile in helping your prospect with your product.

But tell you what, OVER DELIVERY IS OVER RATED.

Lemme explain why…

Most people are doing over delivery wrong. And all they mean by over delivery is giving them more “stuff.”

That’s BS

Ya see, you promised people results and a solution.

Your job is to get them THOSE RESULTS.

If they don’t get those results, then you gotta refine how you’re delivering that solution.

You see, it is all about the results and that’s all your prospects care about.

I mean that’s what you and I care about too – The results!

Now back to the point:

How you define something is important because if you notice I just showed you my entire process by giving you my definition of leads.

[OPINION] The Traveling Samurai

I’ve been watching a lot of Samurai Champloo recently, its an awesome anime series about a couple of samurais, traveling with no place to belong.

I’ve been able to relate to that.

Cause I’ve been in the same shoes.

Going on, and on and on. With no place to belong.

Some might say, oh my gosh what an amazing lifestyle!

This guy gets to travel all around various places, and live a nice lifestyle without working from an office, he can work from any place he wants.

Is it a blessing?

Well, I dunno about that. Why are these people stuck in those places?

Because of the commitments that they made due to an urge of their primitive need to belong to some place where they have some meaningful relationships?

But don’t we all need a place to belong to?

I’ve been in the process of filling an EB5 visa and getting a nice office in LA. (don’t ask me about the traffic, I know)

Have a bunch of people working there for a couple of my companies cause things are getting a bit complicated in terms of operations, this whole virtual working stuff starts to show its limit when things get bigger and when you start to generate volume.

You now need people to work for you, with you.

because the load is too much for just you and your virtual army to handle,

You need faster communication so you need to be in an office, where direct face to face meetings are faster and easier (i.e. if you know how to run meetings properly)

When you are living like a traveling samurai, like those two suckers from Samurai Champloo, you move on and don’t stay in one place for a long time.

Which means, you can’t form meaningful relationships.

Even in this age of social media and this “connected world” ecosystem that we have going for us.

The real friends and relationships still only form when you meet someone face to face.

I know people with 1000+ Facebook friends, actually, I know a LOT of people with 1000+ FB friends.

But with how many of these “friends” do they have any meaningful connection?

Who knows?

Well, actually there was a study on this recently, I don’t remember but if you ask your pal Google then I’m sure you’ll be able to find it.

But it said something like if you have a ton of Facebook friends, there are only 5 to 10 of those people who might have some meaningful relationship with you.

Maybe we screw around, with our eyes glued to the screen because of our primitive need or desire to belong?

And stay up to date with what’s going on, so we can belong to this world (tribe perhaps)? The world that we keep on calling the “reality.”

But does it matter? I think not.

What’s hot today, what’s a pressing matter today, might be old boring news of yesterday.

It’s like what news channels were to people before the social media. Where their entire thinking process or in some cases their primitive sense or need to belong revolved around the media – the news – the pop culture.

I think it might be because of the fact that their lives lack passionate ambitions to disregard what is considered normal for the majority?

Passionate ambitions in an individual not only makes people more focused but also more UNFOCUSED. Unfocused from the mainstream around that, the media, the social media – in short their primitive sense to belong is overtaken by their sense to achieve that ambition they have.

Is that what makes someone a moving samurai?

Who knows? At least I don’t…

What I do know, is that In my case, I lack that primitive sense of belonging.

My friends call me an anti-social prick. lol

And I’m fine with that. Cause being around the culture and a still society that seems to be moving forward but on a treadmill, leaves an impact or an influence on my mind.

After all, I’m a human too.

But it ends now, and I think this is time, to have a permanent headquarter for all my shenanigans.

Maybe it’s time for me to start socializing a bit.

Who knows how it might change the way I live, or do business to move my ambitions forward.
